We all have that entrepreneurial spirit that kicks in at the most desperate moments, and for the girl, the flowers were all she had to offer.

The Highlight Of A Generation
A generation of music artists assembled on a piece of land in Woodstock's rural town to celebrate music with peace and love, and to this day, there has been nothing like it.

More Than Just One Version Of The Story!
US civil servants everywhere were surprised to the core by the conditions of Woodstock, especially with Bethel being named the third-largest city in New York City. But that did not stop the festival-goers from having fun as they swayed to some good old rock and roll music and spreading some positivity and peace!
Outside the festival area, however, everyone was worried about what would happen next, and even the State Governor was alarmed and declared Bethel as a disaster-prone area. Could there possibly be a better example of the phrase "two sides to every story?" Fun on one side and doomsday on the other!
There’s No Way It Wasn’t A Party
Woodstock was never actually meant to be as big as it was. The festival was to gather like-minded people who loved music to spend time in the countryside with each other, in the presence of the beats that made the ’60s so awesome.
The peace and love movement was at its peak, so there were bound to be more people invited than planned because the festival was the epitome of the national mood. Throw in a bunch of young people in the same mix with rock and roll and a celebratory atmosphere, and you’ve got yourself one of the biggest outdoor parties of all time.
Half A Million People Invaded A Small Town
Because the organizers did not expect as many as four hundred thousand people to show up for what was to be a small gathering of music lovers, there were many logistics issues. With that horde of people gathered in a six hundred acre farmland in Woodstock's sleepy town, the unprecedented crowds pouring in also jammed the 17B highway.
Being sold out was such an understatement for what actually happened at the Woodstock music festival. Yet, the peace and love culture prevailed in making sure everyone was safe, and there were no serious issues with all the chaos that resulted from the crowd.
The Attraction Of The Woodstock Festival
It was not so hard to believe that many people would show up in the sweltering summer heat to see Santana, Joan Baez, Ravi Shankar, and the twentieth-century icon, Jimi Hendrix, perform live in a festival. With so many amazing artists on the line-up, you can imagine history was in the making on those three days at Woodstock.
Jimi Hendrix, with his band Gypsy Sun and Rainbows were the highlight of the festival. Their performance was recorded as one of the most iconic performances in rock and roll history, leaving the set as the highest-paid artist on the Woodstock line-up with a check of $18k.
An Experience Of A Lifetime
It must have taken a miracle to get all 400k people to be still and hum along in harmony with the performance of The Star-Spangled Banner by Jimi Hendrix. But through the renowned performer’s two-hour-long show, more than half of the population that made it to the festival ground could not get a view of the show, and that must have been such a bummer.
Despite that setback, the unity shared by the crowd of half a million people, coupled with Jimi’s most prolonged ever performance at the festival, must have been enough compensation for everyone.
Love Conquers All
Woodstock festival, held in 1969, was undoubtedly one of the most iconic music events ever, with an estimated attendance of close to half a million people. These two, Bobby Kelly and Nick Ercoline, are still happily married today, and they have two children together. Woodstock was not just about music, it was about love, peace, and harmony, and this couple epitomized that!

When Tim Hardin showed up at the Woodstock festival, we doubt he knew he would create an unforgettable moment from the concert. The artist belted out his hit tune If I Were A Carpenter to loud cheer and won the fans' hearts.
While it seemed like other stars would overshadow him, Hardin stayed true to his style and guitar. Hearts Full of Affection
When people are determined to have fun, nothing, not even the bad weather, can come between them and making merry. Despite being a hectic event to plan, when the heavens opened, and rain started to fall during Woodstock, continuing with the festival was a nightmare.
These attendees decided to get wet and keep the fun going, despite having their shoes drenched in mud. They were having the best time of their lives in spite of the rains, and like everyone else, braved the weather to experience all that the event had to offer.
Fashion Statement
Hippies might be considered irresponsible and naïve, but if images from Woodstock are anything to go by, this group of people knew how to dress! When she arrived for the festival clad in a black top and jeans, this lady stole the show with a cowboy belt, necklaces, and a leather armband complimenting the look.
It's difficult to ignore the impact the concert had on culture and fashion, and those effects are still felt until now. If you don't believe that Woodstock was a diverse, counter-stereotype festival, then maybe this will change your mind. Before the event started, an Indian religious leader Satchidananda Saraswati gave a rousing speech that focused on music being the connector of people in the universe.
While Woodstock was not a religious event, the attendance by the late spiritual guru in a time when hippies were considered shallow went a long way in showing that people from all walks of life can be together and enjoy the beauty of music. With his charming word, Saraswati kicked off the festival that would turn out to be one exceptional occurrence in history.
Max Yasgur Made It Happen!
Fun fact, did you know that Woodstock isn't a place? The festival didn't happen at a place called Woodstock; instead, it was named after the company that sponsored it, Woodstock Ventures which is still in operation to date.
So the concert would not have been possible if it was not for Max Yasgur, a Bethel farmer, who agreed to host the event at his dairy farm. His collaboration brought about a lot of criticism from his neighbors, who almost sued him! Sadly, Max passed on in 1973, but he shall never be forgotten for making the festival a success.
A Rare Sight
Almost everyone knows that the Woodstock music event was held at a farms that had many cows. But the cow was lucky enough to become a part of history after an event photographer captured her. The image shows a beautiful scene of a small group of attendees watching while some young men were busy milking the cow. Well, their reactions suggest that many of them were seeing this for the first time.
Besides that, since thousands of unprepared and hungry teenagers attended the event, we are sure that nobody snubbed the opportunity of having a fresh glass of milk to charge them up!
Counting Sheep
If you are old enough to remember the massive traffic jam outside the music event venue, you might also know that it was responsible for keeping many young folks from attending the event. We are sure that it is why many teenagers ditched their cars and preferred hitchhiking or public transport.

The Woodstock music event organizers were worried about half a million people attending the festival when they only sold as many as one hundred thousand tickets. Well, it appears that the teenagers back in the sixties did not care whether they had the pass or not – they simply believed in showing up. Surprisingly, they never returned without attending the fun-packed show.
When a massive farm with small fences is the venue of one of the world's most significant events, the event is bound to be filled with freeloaders. But they were there days before the festival even started!
Trash Everywhere
Most of you might remember your college days, and if you ever threw a party at your place, then there are chances that you know the aftermath; there is a lot of cleaning up that needs to be done before your parents are home. Believe us, Woodstock was just like those teenage parties; imagine the stuff you need to clean up after hosting half a million people. Yes, we know that it is massive!
Soon after the event ended, the farmer who owned the land found swaths of trash left by the so-called nature-loving hippies!
Poor Conditions - Happy Hearts
Even in the venue's worst conditions, the attendees of the music event were always as happy as you can see in this picture. But the organizers were never ready to host such a large number of people, and as it rained on the weekend, it made the situation even worse. Despite the conditions, the youngsters were always keen to attend the festival.
The Woodstock documentaries mention that the venue's sanitary amenities were deplorable; we still wonder how the attendees managed to survive there for a weekend in such poor conditions.
Army To The Rescue
With poor hygienic and sanitary conditions, thousands of people had no access to clean water and food. At the end of the day, the US Army, saved them by delivering food and clean camps. Besides that, the government also provided first aid facilities to avoid any kind of medical complications.
You might be surprised to find out that many doctors and physicians volunteered to protect the teenagers, and the event organizers did not even pay them. And thanks to their invaluable services, not many medical complications were reported.
Wanted: A Place To Sit!
If you have been to a large-scale public event or even a major music festival, you must be familiar with how difficult it is to find a spot to sit on! Woodstock was certainly no different as it was heavily crowded with at least half a million people joining in on the festivities! And only a few fortunate folks found a place to sit on and were cozy enough to enjoy a festive afternoon!
But the hippies of Woodstock were not disheartened and continued to have lots of fun despite the lack of comfort. Now, isn't that the spirit?
No Capitalism, Please!
Not even the free-spirited Woodstock members could resist the idea of making some cash by selling goods at the festival. But some capitalist merchants took things a bit too far as they decided to make a larger profit. One food stand, in particular, went overboard, raising the price of a burger to $1 from $0.25, and then, all hell broke loose.
The anti-market yippies were offended by the commercial strategy and burnt the stand down. Then again, isn't putting up a full-fledged riot also violate the basic morals of peace and love that the freethinkers live by?
Scarcity And Rescue!
The Woodstock organizing committee expected only as many as 200,000 people to attend the festival and only made enough arrangements as per the expectations. But then, at least half a million people attended the festivities, which obviously lead to a massive scarcity of food, water, and other necessities.
Luckily, a rescue team in helicopters arrived with supplies and dropped them for those present. Here you can see a military official checking off his list after dispersing the essentials and a family with their furry friend enjoying some good milk and bread. Thanks to the rescue team, a festival headed towards tragedy ended happily!
Janis Joplin Also Went To Woodstock!
Several celebrities had graced the grounds of Woodstock, yet Janis Joplin's appearance at the festival made a huge uproar. The star sure looks calm and composed in the picture, but apparently, she was incredibly giddy and nervous after looking at the huge crowd, which was probably why she sought refuge in some refreshing beverage.
Apart from the slightly delayed performance and a voice mishap, the audience cheered loudly when Janis started singing, and the crowd even demanded an encore when the show was over. It truly must be the most memorable celebrity appearance at Woodstock thus far!
You Thought You'd Seen Everything On The Internet?
How about this primate lingering among partying teens? This picture was a sensation upon its release, setting the internet ablaze. Many wondered what the monkey was doing at a festival and why it wasn't on a leash.
It turns out the furry animal is the girl's pet, and they both seem to be having a jolly time at the event. Only the two knew this internet-breaking photograph was being taken, and we must say, they look quite the pair! Show us a better concert combo that's bound to draw stares. We're waiting!
Some Missed Out!
Some people probably still reminisce about missing out on the defining festival, owing to various reasons. We are talking about the big stars who could not make it to the venue due to unavoidable circumstances.
For instance, John Lennon could not leave Canada after being denied a visa, while Bob Dylan was busy taking care of his unwell son. Although they rued their absence at the Woodstock festival, the party went on, and every one of them sent in their best wishes to the somewhat disappointed revelers. In the end, however, everyone got to have the time of their lives!

One can only party too much, and going for days without sleep can take its toll on anyone. Ask these revelers who pretty much tapped out on the grass! The endless dancing and party antics got the best of them in the end!
The best part about this nap is that your friends surround you, and besides, there was enough security around the venue. This bunch probably woke up and continued to do what brought them there - party! Thinking of which, didn’t they think to bring along their tents with them?
Bethel, Where It All Went Down
Contrary to popular belief, the Woodstock festival did not take place in a town by that name. Instead, this pivotal event went down in Bethel, a sleepy suburban settlement in New York. It was the over 40,000 people showing up unannounced that wrote history.
The town went on to achieve pilgrimage-status and is to this day frequented by everyone interested in the 60s showbiz disruption that has influenced the industry as we know it today. It’s incredible what one event can do to a town - Bethel underwent an instant transformation from a relatively unknown village to what it is today, the hallowed place where it all went down!

Not all heroes wear capes, which was all too evident at the Woodstock festival. With the millions in attendance and the usual shenanigans of a concert event, medical aid was essential. With not nearly enough well-trained staff were available at the venue, these volunteers stepped up to the plate by providing first aid assistance to the revelers whenever the party took its toll on them.
Cases reported ranged from dehydration, fatigue, and the occasional over-enthusiasm of jostling crowds. It goes without saying that they saved some lives and deserved praise as one selfless group of young ladies and gentlemen.
Got to Catch Up With The News!
When the Woodstock festival was underway, the media was awash with stories about the historical event, although most of the tabloid juice was negative. In the first few days, the focus was mostly on the binge drinking and potential substance abuse allegedly rampant at the festival. This couple in the picture could not resist reading what the papers were reporting.
In a later reveal, some journalists said that they were pressured to convey the event negatively and that just goes on to show that you should not believe everything that you read in these papers!

Everybody is busy minding their own business, so even if you have not got the best moves, nobody is going to notice!

Activist Abbie Hoffman at Woodstock
Abbie Hoffman was a famous writer and activist back then. But he was more famous for inciting riots at large public gatherings. And even though the Woodstock festival was about love and peace, he did not shy from creating a nuisance over there as well!
Hoffman wanted to give a shoutout about the government's unfair decision of sending an American poet - John Sinclair, to confinement and demanded people's support. But obstructing The Who's live performance mid-way was no way to do that. Peaceful protests have a time and place for a reason, after all!
This Rocking Band Almost Didn't Perform
Despite a massive gathering, things were going pretty well at the Woodstock event when suddenly unpredictable rain showers spoiled everything! If the crowds seem alright in this picture only because the heavy rainfall couldn't wash away the musicians' and the attendees' team spirit.
All the members of the The Grateful Dead gathered on the stage quickly as the sun came up and fixed those cumbersome instruments in a jiffy. Thankfully, no one got electrified in the process! The band's performance got delayed by 14 hours, but once they went live on-stage, it looked like nothing went wrong!
